I never write in this thing. Darn it. Well, I am sick with a cold (I knew I'd get it one day) and on the couch with nothing to do, so away I go.
I was just thinking about this past semester, and how much things changed for me. It was the first semester ever where I found myself actually WANTING to go back to Gordon during breaks and such. It was quite a lot of fun! I made new friends and soul mates and all that kind of stuff. :)
Next semester will be really strange and fun. Ashley, my darling roommate of 3 and a half years has moved out, and Ryn will be moving in. Should be really fun, though it's funny how well adapted I was to living with Ashley. It was sad to see her go, but I know Ryn and I will have fun. Hopefully not too much fun, since we tend to neglect homework sometimes.
We just got through my second to last battle with Gordon College final exams. And Christmas has come and gone. It was a great Christmas... the best one in a long time. I think my family is finally adjusting to all the weirdness that comes along with divorce.
Well my throat is killing me... I'm gonna see if we have some soup. I'll try to write again soon. The only way to get better is to practice, and at the moment, it's the only thing I have going for me. :P

The end.
The end.
So, I never got around to expanding on the highlights of the late summer, and now here we are, with fall having passed us by and winter already settled in nicely! So much was going on, that I just didn't have any time to spend online...not just on this journal: email and facebook were almost completely ignored as well!
After driving back to the east coast, Brian and I were staying at my parent's house while we were looking for jobs and an apartment closer to Boston. I spent much of that time catching up with my family and getting over a cold. We found that the job search just wasn't going well...the only calls we got about interviews were for places in CT. We just couldn't seem to get the attention of employers in MA...I think the current CT address was throwing them off. So we decided after three weeks that we needed a new plan: we needed to find a place to live FIRST, if possible, and then continue the job search from location closer to the markets we were going for.
We ended up looking at a bunch of really great places, both in Boston and on the outskirts, and we picked a really awesome house in Newton Highlands. It's a multiple family house, and we have the second floor. It has everything we wanted: affordable rent including one parking space, heat, hot water, and electricity. It let us have our kitten-cat, and the closest T stop is quite literally right across the street. I can jump on the T and be at school in 25 minutes!
We moved in on October 15 and slowly it all started coming together. We got rid of a lot of our belongings when we moved from Cali, not being able to afford to ship it all. We have begun to acquire the things that make living in a place easier...mainly storage and kitchen items. We painted every room really bright, happy colors :) Bailey loves it here now that she's been here a few months and is used to it, and the neighbors are really nice (as is the landlord and his wife). The house was built in the 1930s and is really charming :)
The day we moved in, I got a call from a staffing agency, and set up an interview time with them. I ended up getting a job at a telecommunications company in Quincy, called Granite. It was great news and seemed like the start of something really good. The only thing I wasn't sure of was the commute, supposedly an hour on the T, but I thought I'd try it out.
A week before I started working at Granite, my 24th birthday came around. It seemed like it was going to be an ok day. B and I woke up early and went over to my school for an orientation, which was really enjoyable. I picked two great classes to start in January and I was excited about it. Later that night, B and I drove to a Tavern in Sturbridge and met Brendan, Alicia, and Aidan there. They wanted to take me out for dinner for my birthday. It was really sweet of them and we were having a really nice time, but then my dad called and he had some awful news. My cousin had died that evening.
Carinne was this really beautiful person. She suffered from severe bipolar disorder, and had gone through a lot of bad times. But even though she was always suffering, if ever I needed anything, she was right there for me, almost as if nothing in her own life was wrong at all. Through events that happened in my childhood, to the scariness of starting high school in a new and much bigger school, to dealing with my own mental health, to breakups, worrying about the future...you name it...she was always there. But she just couldn't do it anymore, and so after wishing me a happy birthday, she ended it. Her services were the following weekend.
Anyway, I started work the day after her funeral, and I ended up really enjoying the work and everyone at the company. The only problem was that the projected hour commute turned out to be an actual commute of 1 hour and 45 minutes...and I knew I couldn't do it. On top of that, the hours were very inflexible, and there was no way I'd be able to get to my classes on time come January. It just wasn't going to work out, so I had to say goodbye to that job and start the search again!
About one week after I left Granite, I got another position, this time at a Pottery Barn as a full time sales associate. And the funny part of the news? - Brian got a job there, too!! We both had spent a full day going around different malls and shopping locations, applying at all the places we could find that were hiring. The GM at PB called us both in and he really liked us. He also liked the fact that we are engaged because we work really well together. He thought it was a good sign that we met each other through a past job. We have been working there for three weeks now and we both are very happy there! We get to go in to work together and leave together. We don't see each other much at all when we are actually working, because it is so busy, but it's nice to look up every once in awhile and see him across the room, doing his thing. :)
Brian's parents booked a flight to come visit us as soon as they heard word that we were employeed. It was great having them. They stayed with us for one week and we had a great time. We even spent two days at my parents' house, and all of the parents got along really great. It was sad seeing them go, but they will be back very soon because of the wedding this summer!
Speaking of the wedding, so much is going on, it's crazy! We have the date, the church, and the reception site booked. We've gone through all of the classes required by the Church, and all that's left to do is pick the music with Mrs. Degan and meet with our mentor couple. We have picked the photographer and the dj and are really excited about both (but especially the photographer. Her name is Wendy Van Welie, and when I worked at J. Whitney I did her framing. I love her style and she's such a sweet person...I wouldn't want to spend my wedding day with any other photographer :D). Alicia, Brian and I have just begun our Save the Dates, and after that we will begin making the invitations. Brian and I are SO lucky to have Alicia as a partner in crime...she is so helpful and generous with her time and ideas. She has so much energy and excitement for the wedding and it means a lot to me. :) After the holidays my mom and I are going to go dress shopping!! After we find my dress, we will do the bridesmaids. Everything is falling into place and I'm so excited.
Christmas really snuck up on me this year! I haven't done any shopping at ALL. I'm going to do it all on Sunday...unfortuantely my gift giving is going to have to be light this year. Moving and being unemployed for a few months really did a number on our savings. But I know that the gifts aren't really what matter :) (Still, it would be nice to be able to get really awesome gifts for my family!) Next year will be better monetarily speaking...hopefully for everyone!
Until next time,
Kiera
